O Allah, if you would ever question me,
\nThis would be my outright answer to Thee:<\/p>\n
True, I sinned-brutalised my own being,
\nBut what Have I done against you, my King?<\/p>\n
Did I make myself? I’m your creation.
\nWhy drench me in sin, Benevolent One?<\/p>\n
I saw dungeons when I opened my eyes-
\nTeeming with devils, temptation and lies.<\/p>\n
To shun death by Hunger, many a time,
\nIn prison, I had to eat dirt and grime.<\/p>\n
Did your dominion become any less?
\nDid I usurp any of your prowess?<\/p>\n
Are you Hungry? Did I eat your ration?
\nDid I deprive you, cause your starvation?<\/p>\n
Do you still seek revenge though you hilled me,
\nSince I rotted, since darkest soil filled me.<\/p>\n
You built me a bridge to cross, thin as hair;
\nOut of your traps I’m to choose my own snare.<\/p>\n
How can a man pass through a Hair-thin bridge?
\nHe falls or clings on or flies off the ridge.<\/p>\n
Your slaves build bridges for the public good,
\nThose who pass through it head for the Godhead.<\/p>\n
I wish its firm foundation will hold sway
\nSo those who cross it know it’s the true way.<\/p>\n
You set a scale to weigh deeds, for your aim
\nIs to hurl me into Hell’s crackling flame.<\/p>\n
A scale is suitable for a grocer,
\nFor a small merchant or a jeweller.<\/p>\n
Sin, though, is the vilest, filthiest vice,
\nThe profit of those unworthy of Grace.<\/p>\n
You can see everything, you know me-fine;
\nThen, why must you weigh all these deeds of mine?<\/p>\n
No harm ever came from Yunus to you;
\nOpen, secret-all things are in your view.<\/p>\n
Allah\u00a0Almighty, why all this talk, why must
