It’s the true man who leads the mystic life
\nWhoever is human, whoever dares.
\nThose who stand high and look below with scorn
\nAre bound to fall from the top of the stairs.<\/p>\n
Though a gray-bearded old man might look grand,
\nThere is so much he doesn’t understand,
\nLet him not struggle towards the Holy Land
\nIf he causes one heart to burn in tears.<\/p>\n
A deaf man cannot hear what people say,
\nHe thinks it’s night when it’s brightest day,
\nThe atheist’s eyes are blind to Allah’s way
\nEven though the whole world glitters and glares.<\/p>\n
The lover’s heart is the Creator’s throne.
\nAllah admires and accepts it as his own,
\nThe man who breaks a heart shall groan and moan
\nIn both worlds, suffering sorrows and cares.<\/p>\n
You have a self image in your own eyes,
\nBe sure to see others in the same guise.
\nEach of the four holy books clarifies
\nThis truth as it applies to man’s affairs.<\/p>\n
We have seen it all: Those who came are gone.
\nThose who once stopped here went back one by one;
\nHe must have gulped love’s wine if anyone
